How to Attract Employees with a Strong Job Recruitment Ad
A great team is one of the best assets a business owner or operator can invest in. The way in which organizations find or recruit team members is important, because excellent people can only enhance your business. You want to find the best possible person for the job, not just any person who can do the work.
Before you begin drafting your recruitment ad, you need to first spend some time thinking about the type of person you are trying to attract. What skills, characteristics, and other attributes do you want them to have? Take time to form a mental picture in your head. Don’t forget to consider the “heart” and “spirit” aspects of future candidates. Skills can always be learned, improved upon, or acquired, but passion, personality, and heart are the things that will give any team that winning edge.
Once you’ve decided what type of person you want to attract, you need to write an ad that will make them take notice and take action. When writing the ad, keep these hints in mind:
- Be specific.
- Be exciting.
- Focus on the benefits of the job.
- Write as you speak.
- Write in the present tense.
- Qualify the reader.
For example:
Headline: “Looking for a Really Great Marketing Coordinator
We’re a small firm that produces big results. Our marketing almost rocks, but let’s be honest – we’re just too busy to execute on all our ideas.
We need a Marketing Coordinator who has a reputation for getting stuff done. But remember, we’re small, so our Marketing Coordinator has to be a bit of a Jack or Jill of all things marketing.
You’re perfect for this opportunity if:
- You’re a great writer, with no patience for typos, poor grammar, or boring copy.
- You geek out on marketing analytics like click-through rates, testing headlines, and increasing traffic.
- When you don’t know something, you Google it.
- You have a great attitude, love to have fun at work, and also know how to hustle.”
By writing in this manner, the company is still saying that they want someone with great attention to detail, a hard work ethic, and a broad range of marketing skills, but they are also describing and demonstrating their culture at the same time.
Focus on targeting your ad to the people you want to reach and making your message appealing to them. Follow the AIDA formula: Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. It must attract their attention, then make them interested enough to read further and to build their desire enough for them to take action and to apply.
